This role offers an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Professor (Teaching) in Learning Disabilities Nursing.
The Role
As an Assistant Professor (Teaching) in Learning Disabilities Nursing, you will be a senior member of the education team and will undertake course and module coordination, alongside teaching and assessment activities. You will support the development and delivery of undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programs and other core activities ensuring students have an effective learning experience.
Based on-site at Coventry University in Coventry, you will work closely with academic colleagues to enrich the student learning and teaching experience to ensure, as appropriate, relevant aspects of research, enterprise and professional context are embedded in modules and courses.
Duties include:
• Undertaking the role of a course director within the Nursing portfolio.
• Lead and teach on modules and courses at HE levels 4-7 in relevant academic subject areas including curation, adaptation and creation of module teaching materials, delivering a variety of types of students learning sessions and supporting students as appropriate through informal and formal communication throughout teaching blocks.
• Leading on the design, implementation, ratification and quality assurance processes related to student assessment.
• The preparation and dissemination of both generic and specific formative and summative student feedback.
• Supporting our delivery of simulated practice learning activities.
• Undertaking the role of Academic Assessor.
• Supporting course recruitment activities such as interviews and open days.
• Upholding high standards of academic integrity in all aspects of teaching, learning and assessment.
• Acting as a line manager and mentor to more junior staff.
Qualifications Required
• Active and live registration with the NMC as a Learning Disabilities Nurse is essential for the role.
• Practice Assessor and/or acadmic assessor training and experience of supporting student nurses is also essential for the role.
• A Master’s degree in an appropriate subject or a good Honours Degree (if from a professional practice background) with appropriate professional qualification and/or membership is essential.
• A teaching qualification or extensive experience of delivering professional and/or university education.
• PhD would be advantageous
Our Successful Candidate
You will have strong leadership skills and experience within higher education and/or clinical practice settings.
You will have demonstrable experience of leading successful teaching at higher education levels 4-7 in Learning Disabilities Nursing with high standards of teaching, learning and student engagement consistent with our reputation and track record as a high-quality provider of teaching and learning.
Enthusiastic and self-motivated, you will have experience leading, enhancing and engaging in an ‘active learning’ pedagogy with evidence in proactively supporting student success.
As a global education provider, experience and awareness of learner’s cultural differences and expectations with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds is essential.
Innovation and collaboration are key to our success, therefore the ability to work both independently and part of a wider team with the willingness to engage in flexible ways of working are key skills required for this role.
