Our people are key to our success, and each role contributes to the Group’s ongoing progress in communities around the world.
The Role
As the Contractor Controller (Mechanical), you will supervise and coordinate mechanical maintenance contractors and support the delivery of safe, compliant, and high-quality mechanical maintenance services across Coventry University Group's campuses. You will be responsible for overseeing planned preventative maintenance, reactive works, statutory inspections, and minor mechanical projects, ensuring all activities are carried out in line with contractual obligations, statutory requirements, and agreed service levels.
A key part of the role involves managing contractor performance, reviewing risk assessments and permits to work, auditing workmanship quality, and ensuring compliance with mechanical safety procedures. You will act as the primary operational link between contractors, in-house technical teams, faculties, students, and stakeholders, helping to ensure works are delivered efficiently and with minimal disruption to campus activities.
Using the Planon CAFM system (training provided where necessary), you will coordinate maintenance activities, maintain compliance records and asset information, monitor contractor KPIs, and support the administration of mechanical contracts. You will also provide technical guidance on mechanical systems, assist with fault finding and incident response, and support the delivery of continuous improvement initiatives across the Estates and Infrastructure Services team.

You will ideally hold a recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Installation, or Building Services, such as an NVQ Level 3/4, HNC, City & Guilds qualification, or equivalent experience. An understanding of mechanical compliance requirements, contractor control procedures, and safe systems of work is essential, together with Sound technical knowledge of mechanical building services (e.g. HVAC, pumps, plant rooms, water systems, BMS interfaces etc.).
The successful candidate will have experience coordinating contractors, reviewing risk assessments and method statements, managing permit-to-work processes, and supporting statutory inspection and testing programmes. Experience using CAFM systems such as Planon, maintaining compliance records, and working with a wide range of stakeholders will be highly beneficial.
You will be organised, proactive, and confident when liaising with contractors, customers, and technical teams, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy operational environment
You will be an organised and proactive individual with excellent communication skills, able to manage competing priorities while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and customer service.
