This post will be based at Coventry University’s Centre for Advanced Low-carbon Propulsion Systems (C-ALPS), a £50m research centre established to partner with the propulsion system supply chain and accelerate the progression to carbon-zero transport. The Centre works across the automotive, aerospace, marine and rail industries to support the creation of cleaner mobility and to help develop the supply chain so that it can deliver these rapidly developing ‘enabling’ technologies.

The Role
The Centre for E-Mobility and Clean Growth is looking for a Research Assistant to work as part of a team delivering on a Horizon – European Funded project ESCALATE. This role will support an ambitious research initiative with multiple international partners, focused on producing modular, stackable and scalable powertrain for battery and fuel-cell powered heavy-duty long-haul vehicles.
Under line management supervision and guidance, you will contribute to research and consultancy activity, including international research, as part of the ESCALATE project which aims to develop modular, scalable powertrain components for battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell road vehicles.
You will also undertake own small projects, including submission of funding bids, with support from line manager.
This will be a fixed-term contract. Interested candidates should include a CV and a summary of relevant research experience with their application.
Our Successful Candidate
You should have a good degree (1st class or 2.1) in an appropriate subject such as Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics or Chemistry, with focused knowledge and experience of power electronics and/or hydrogen fuel cells and be able to demonstrate sound knowledge and research methods relevant to one or more of the following areas: WBG-based converter circuits design, PCB layout and thermal analysis, circuit modelling and simulation, PEM fuel cell testing, PEM fuel cell system modelling, PEM fuel cell diagnostics.
If successful, you will join a fast growing research centre with high levels of industrial engagement. This is an exciting opportunity for you to significantly expand your technical research skills within the strategically important area of accelerating powertrain electrification in the propulsion sector.
