The Role
As an Electrical Technician, you will play a key role in delivering a high-quality electrical maintenance and installation service across Coventry University Group's diverse estate. Working as part of the Estates Delivery Team, you will undertake a varied workload of reactive maintenance, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), fault finding, inspection and testing activities, and electrical installation works, ensuring our buildings and infrastructure remain safe, compliant, operational and fully compliant with statutory regulations and industry standards.
Working across multiple campuses and sites, you will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing electrical faults, carrying out inspection and testing, complete remedial works and support both minor and major electrical projects across the estate. From power distribution and lighting systems to emergency lighting and associated electrical equipment, you will help maintain the reliability and performance of critical building services while minimising disruption to staff, students, and visitors. Working closely with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders, you will contribute to high standards of workmanship, customer service, health and safety, and continuous improvement across multiple Coventry University Group locations.
You will provide guidance to apprentices and other team members, and help ensure maintenance activities are carried out safely, effectively, and in compliance with relevant regulations. Through your technical knowledge and proactive approach, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of services, contribute to maintaining safe, comfortable, quality assurance activities and sustainable environments for students, staff, and visitors.
Our Successful Candidate
We are looking for an experienced electrical professional with a strong background in commercial or industrial electrical maintenance, installation, fault finding, and testing. This role would suit an Electrician, Electrical Technician, Maintenance Electrician, Building Services Electrician, or someone with similar experience who is looking to develop their career within a large and varied estate environment.
You will hold a City & Guilds Level 3 qualification in Electrical Installation or Maintenance, be qualified to BS 7671 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations), and possess Inspection and Testing qualifications such as City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent. You will have significant experience working on single and three-phase electrical systems, lighting control systems, motor controls and be confident undertaking testing, inspections, certification, and remedial works in a safe and compliant manner.
The successful candidate will be a proactive problem solver with excellent diagnostic and communication skills with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team. You will be confident reading electrical drawings, maintaining accurate documentation, and liaising with colleagues, contractors, and customers to deliver an efficient and customer-focused service.
You will be required to participate in the out-of-hours emergency call-out rota and work flexibly to meet operational demands. In return, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the maintenance and development of a diverse estate while supporting the delivery of an excellent experience for our students, staff, and visitors.
As this role supports multiple locations across the Coventry University Group estate, you must be willing and able to travel to regional campuses including Scarborough, Milton Keynes, Central London, and Dagenham as required. Occasional overnight stays may be necessary.
