The Role

 

The Indirect Tax Manager is responsible for ensuring that the University Group meets statutory indirect tax (excluding employment tax) reporting requirements in a timely and accurate manner and proactively advises the Group in order to minimise its tax charges.

 

Key responsibilities include: 

 

  • Lead on the preparation, review and submission of all VAT returns and other associated indirect tax returns for the group. 
  • To be primary point of contact for the business and tax authorities on all indirect tax matters. 
  • To support and work with accounting colleagues within finance offering support and guidance on indirect tax implications to the business. 
  • To support the Head of Global Tax and Compliance and the wider group on all UK indirect tax enquiries that may develop from internal and external sources. liaising with external advisors and facilitating advice for UK projects, reporting and compliance. 
  • Supports the Head of Global Tax and Compliance on all tax, reporting and compliance matters relating to overseas activities including, but not limited to overseas tax returns, overseas tax advice, transfer pricing, overseas projects and supports the Groups international development agenda.
  • Liaise with accounting colleagues to ensure that cross-group activity is transacted in the most tax efficient manner.
  • Ensure Group IR35 compliance through HMRC-aligned assessments, controls, and stakeholder engagement to manage tax risk and contractor governance

Our Successful Candidate

 

You will be a qualified accountant with CCAB (Consultative Committee of Accounting Bodies) accounting qualification of at least a Fellow level membership with a focus on tax and/or qualified Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) or Association Tax Technicians (ATT). 

 

You will have a background and detailed understanding of all indirect taxes with experience of managing and developing staff and experience of engaging with stakeholders at all levels. Experience within the HE sector would be advantageous. 

 

You will be highly detailed in your approach and have excellent self-management skills with a proven ability to meet tight deadlines. You should be able to investigate and examine large amounts of data and information and investigate problems or situation beyond routing questioning. 

 

You should have excellent data analytical skills and a high level of knowledge in Excel and other finances systems and be able to work with minimum supervision with the ability to prioritise and make decisions based upon clear criteria.
