As Lecturer (Teaching) in Geospatial Science and Physical Geography, you will contribute to teaching and learning within the School of The Environment.
The Role
As Lecturer (Teaching) in Geospatial Science and Physical Geography, you will have responsibility for the development, preparation and delivery of teaching, learning and assessment both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels including module leadership where appropriate while contributing to the development, organisation and management of the curriculum to include international and intercultural experiences.
Working in the School of The Environment, you will be committed to contributing to our continued success in delivering high-quality teaching in the fields of Geospatial Science and Physical Geography. You will join a School known for excellent teaching, high student satisfaction, and a strong emphasis on experiential learning through fieldwork, student-led projects, and simulation — both in the UK and internationally.
Demonstrating good practice in teaching, learning and assessment through use of a wide range of learning resources and appropriate pedagogic practice, you will ensure that teaching is informed by contemporary research and develops the ability of students to engage in debate, critical discourse, and rational thinking.
You will collaborate with colleagues to develop and deliver modules, supervise student research and project work, and act as a workplace learning advisor. You will be expected to adopt and promote a range of engaging, inclusive, and experiential approaches to teaching, learning and assessment, in both face-to-face and online environments
Qualifications Required
PhD (or equivalent), or if a good Honours Degree and/or Master’s Degree if from Professional practice background with appropriate professional qualifications and/or membership that might be considered as equivalent to a PhD.
Our Successful Candidate
We are particularly seeking applicants with expertise in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, environmental modelling, land and environmental surveying, and physical geography. You will bring experience in both the theoretical and applied dimensions of these fields, and contribute to innovative teaching across undergraduate degree and degree apprenticeship programmes.
It would also be beneficial if you have applied or practical field experience in areas such as UAV (drone) operation and analysis, mobile and web mapping applications, hydrography, utilities surveying or asset management, and topographic, engineering, or construction surveying, particularly where these skills support real-world problem solving and industry-relevant training.
Applicants from academic backgrounds should have experience of designing and delivering high-quality learning experiences. We also welcome candidates from professional practice who can demonstrate relevant, recent experience in GIS, remote sensing or surveying, alongside a track record of training, mentoring, or knowledge-sharing in their field.
