The Role
The School of Arts & Creative Industries is looking to recruit an ambitious and enthusiastic Lecturer to our Interior Architecture and Design team. The candidate must contribute to high-quality teaching, learning and assessment activity across all levels of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and support the development of new programmes and activities.
As a Lecturer, you must demonstrate specialist expertise in two or more of the following areas:
- human centred design, inclusive design, regenerative urban design and/or sustainable design
- contemporary challenges, design proposals and competitions
- construction detailing, environmental technologies, material cultures and/or health and safety
- design theory and research methods
- practice and professional sectors for architecture, interior architecture, interior design
- drawing and sketching (analogue and digital)
- 3D modelling and prototyping (analogue and digital)
- industry standard design tools including CAD packages and visualisation software.
This role is central to teaching creative industry practices, imparting key design techniques and skills, proactively using both traditional and digital tools, reinforcing foundational drawing skills and exploring the potential offered by creative technologies.
Additionally, you must be confident to contribute to programmes and activities within the wider designated Architecture cluster; and collaborate on cross-disciplinary projects within the scope of the School of Arts and Creative Industries.
Qualifications Required
- Master’s degree in an appropriate subject OR (if from a professional practice background) a good Honors Degree and an appropriate professional qualification and/or membership
- A teaching qualification or acceptance of the requirement to acquire one if not already held or extensive experience of delivering professional and/or university education.
- PhD and/or active membership of an appropriate professional body would be advantageous.
Our Successful Candidate
To be successful in this role you will be a dynamic academic and/or practitioner, keen to continue/build an academic profile in creative arts education and with experience in the field of Interior Architecture and Design. You will be actively engaged in the broad area of interior architecture and design and innovation and must have a proven track record of exploring new and emerging modes of practice and scholarship.
You will be able to demonstrate best practice in teaching, learning, and assessment within Interior Architecture and Design, including the application of active learning pedagogies suitable to the discipline. They will teach on modules and courses at HE levels 4 to 7 within the subject area, delivering a range of student learning sessions and providing support through both formal and informal communication during teaching semesters.
Have a proven track record of delivering a first-class student experience within Higher Education. The candidate will work with other academic colleagues to enhance the student learning experience, ensuring that relevant aspects of research, enterprise, and professional context are embedded into Interior Architecture and Design modules and courses.
The achievement and satisfaction of our students is our top priority; you must be qualified (or be willing to become qualified) to teach and assess at undergraduate and postgraduate level - those without a teaching qualification will be required to undertake Coventry University’s PGCHE or secure a HEA fellowship.
