Competitive starting salary range from £39,324 up to £44,710 (dependent on experience) with the potential to progress. A discretionary range for candidates with exceptional experience can be discussed/considered.

The Role

 

As a Lecturer (teacing) in Product Design you will undertake teaching and course co-ordination while supporting the development and delivery of undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programs and other core activities ensuring students have an effective learning experience. 

 

Based within the College of the Arts and Society but with principle duties at our Hainan (China) Campus, you will work closely with other academic colleagues to enrich the student learning and teaching experience to ensure, as appropriate, relevant aspects of research, enterprise and professional context are embedded in modules and courses. Teaching duties will require the successful candidate to deliver an estimated 25 weeks in-country across two semesters (typically September - December and March - June). Although certain UK-based duties attached to this role will require working at our Coventry (UK) campus, the majority of this activity (planning, assessment, etc) can be carried out remotely.

 

Duties include:

 

  • Teach on modules and courses at HE levels 4-7 in relevant academic subject areas including curation, adaptation and creation of module teaching materials, delivering a variety of types of student learning sessions and supporting students as appropriate through informal and formal communication throughout teaching semesters
  • Teaching in both classroom and workshop-based contexts in support of students' full design journey from concept to prototype as appropriate

 

Main subject-specific duties and responsibilities include:

 

  • human centred design, inclusive design and/or sustainable design
  • design theory and research methods including market trends and analysis
  • creative industries and professional sectors for design/industrial design
  • drawing and sketching (analogue and digital)
  • 3D modelling and prototyping (analogue and digital)
  • creative technologies including collaborative design tools, HMI/UX/UI, and/or visualisation
  • industry standard design tools including CAD packages (such as Rhino) and visualisation software
  • Global employability and cultural intelligence
  • Embedding internationalisation in curriculum

 

You will be proactive in motivating and supporting students to develop inclusive, innovative, and globally relevant portfolios of work.

Qualifications Required

 

  • A minimum of 2 years sustained teaching at HE level in a relevant subject (3+ years desirable)
  • Master’s degree in an appropriate subject or Honours Degree with appropriate professional qualification and/or membership
  • A teaching qualification or acceptance of the requirement to acquire one if not already held
  • PhD or active membership of an appropriate professional body would be advantageous

Enthusiastic and self-motivated, you will have experience supporting, enhancing and engaging in an ‘active learning’ pedagogy with evidence in proactively supporting student success.
