The Role
The Centre for Discoveries in Life Sciences (DLS) is recognised for pioneering research in the areas of Clinical Science and Translational medicine, Biomedicines, and Applied Science & Biotechnology with impact to improve health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.
As a Research Fellow, you will be actively contributing to the project Use Of Molecular Dynamic Simulations To Study Drug Interactions And Cardiotoxic Effects To Support Machine Learning-Driven Optimization Of Immunotherapy And Radiotherapy For Lung Cancer Patients: A Collaborative Interdisciplinary Approach within the Centre for DLS with the aim to utilize machine learning to optimize treatment regimens for lung cancer patients receiving novel immunotherapy agents and radiotherapy. The initiative will foster collaboration between cardiologists, oncologists, life scientists and data scientists to support the NHS Trust's digital health transformation programme. By integrating machine learning models into clinical workflows and increasing clinical trials, the project seeks to enhance disease diagnosis, prevention strategies, and ultimately improve patient outcomes.
Qualifications Required
PHD or equivalent (where equivalence is having evidence of a submitted thesis by the closing date for applications and award within Probation) or professional experience equivalent to a PhD demonstrating an ability to carry-out independent research.
Good degree (1st class or 2.1) in an appropriate subject such as Molecular & Cellular Pharmacology, Cardiovascular Pharmacology, Medicinal Chemistry, and Drug Discovery.Prior research experience related to Safety Pharmacology and biomarker development.
Our Successful Candidate
We are seeking a motivated, experienced, and passionate individual with a clinical health sciences background. They will have evidence of embedded clinically aligned health sciences research, particularly in novel biomarker bioscience discovery for the university.
You will be Research sufficient to produce excellent, high-quality publications and to communicate the results of their work to the wider public including previous experience of active involvement in research at university level.
Previous experience in using biological samples and working with the relevant methods is required.
The successful candidate will be a Research Fellow who has the specialism of working with miRNA extraction from human blood samples, miRNA expression validation using TaqMan miRNA array on a QuantStudio 7 PCR system, followed by pathway analysis through the Ingenuity Pathway Analysis software by Qiagen in order to address the research needs for a UHCW funded research contract in the area of subclinical assessment of cancer-therapy induced cardiotoxicity through miRNA biomarkers
