The Role

The Centre for Intelligent Healthcare is recognised for pioneering research in the areas of developing innovative healthcare technologies and solutions with impact to improve health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.

We are seeking to recruit a Research Fellow, with the key objectives to contribute to research activity under the supervision of Dr Yuhang Xu and Prof Michael Taggart. The work is part of an EPSRC-funded project that aims to reveal new insight into the mechanisms of spatiotemporal electrical activities underlying human uterine electrical excitation by, for the first time, combining computational and biological optical mapping experimental approaches. This will be in collaboration with University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and University of Leeds to conduct the biological optical mapping experimentation with human uterine tissues and analyse the optical and electrical data to investigate spatiotemporal electrical activities underlying human uterine excitation. Advancing this understanding could enhance early diagnosis and prediction of obstetric diseases, ultimately improving maternal and neonatal health and the prevention of health risks involved in pregnancy and childbirth.

As a Research Fellow you will be responsible for planning and managing own research activity, including conducting experiments, managing data collection, analysing, interpreting and evaluating research outcomes, complying with relevant ethical best practice and regulatory frameworks; Communicating complex research information using a range of methods and media, including to the public where appropriate; Undertaking the publication of your research results and outcomes with a view to developing a national/international profile.
