The Role
As a Senior Plumbing & Heating Maintenance Technician, you will play a key role in delivering a high-quality maintenance and operational service across Coventry University Group's diverse estate. You will undertake a varied range of reactive repairs, planned preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, and installation works, ensuring plumbing, heating, ventilation, and associated mechanical systems remain safe, reliable, and compliant.
Working across campus buildings, halls of residence, student accommodation, and regional sites, you will lead on diagnosing and resolving complex faults, carrying out maintenance activities, and supporting upgrades and improvements to building services systems. You will also assist with Building Management System (BMS) fault investigations and work closely with contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure services are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.
This is a hands-on senior role combining technical expertise with leadership responsibilities. You will support the Mechanical Services Manager with the planning and allocation of work, provide guidance to apprentices and team members, and help ensure maintenance activities are carried out safely, effectively, and in compliance with relevant regulations. Through your technical knowledge and proactive approach, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of services, contribute to maintaining safe, comfortable, quality assurance activities and sustainable environments for students, staff, and visitors.
Our Successful Candidate
We are looking for an experienced plumbing and heating professional with a strong background in maintaining and repairing commercial or large-scale building services systems. This role would suit a Senior Plumber, Heating Technician, Mechanical Maintenance Technician, Building Services Engineer, or an experienced plumbing and heating specialist looking to further develop their career within a large and varied estate environment.
You will hold relevant City & Guilds qualifications in plumbing, heating, or ventilation and have significant practical experience working on heating, ventilation, cold water, hot water, and pressure systems. An understanding of current legislation, health and safety requirements, and industry best practice is essential. Relevant ACS qualifications would be highly desirable.
The successful candidate will have proven fault-finding and diagnostic skills, the ability to interpret mechanical drawings, and the confidence to liaise with suppliers, manufacturers, contractors, and stakeholders when technical advice is required, experience supervising or mentoring colleagues would be advantageous, alongside knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS), air conditioning systems, or gas systems.
You will be a proactive and practical problem solver with excellent communication skills, capable of working independently and as part of a wider team, participate in the out-of-hours emergency call-out rota, and work flexibly to meet operational demands. In return, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the maintenance and development of a diverse estate while supporting the delivery of an excellent experience for our students, staff, and visitors.
As this role supports multiple locations across the Coventry University Group estate, you must be willing and able to travel to regional campuses including Scarborough, Milton Keynes, Central London, and Dagenham as required. Occasional overnight stays may be necessary.
