Competitive starting salary range from £31,637 up to £35,116 per annum (dependent upon experience) with the potential to progress. A discretionary range for candidates with exceptional experience can be discussed/considered

The Role

 

As a Senior Technician in Immersive, you will be providing students and staff with specialist technical expertise with use of industry standard specialist software, equipment, workflows and processes, advising on relevant techniques and assisting with teaching preparation in the context of immersive and creative technologies and their application across a range of disciplines in the College.

 

You will organise and undertake a full programme of skills inductions for students and staff as required, liaise with academic staff to determine timetabling and use of workshops and studios, and undertake the installation, maintenance and servicing of all relevant equipment used in the workshops, labs and studios, liaising with external bodies if necessary.

 

You will also need to ensure that the financial implications of using or developing resources in the workshops and studios are fully evaluated and suitable for use, while keeping up to date with new equipment and media sharing new ideas with school. 


While students and staff are working in studio you will need to supervise when they are working with high-risk equipment, ensuring that students and staff are certified to undertake such work and are safe. You will be responsible for ensuring methods and systems of working in workshops and studios are safe in accordance with statutory health and safety regulations.         

Qualifications Required

 

Honours Degree in a relevant audio/visual creative specialism disciple or if from a professional practice/industry background: sustained, appropriate level industry experience in a relevant field. 

Our Successful Candidate

 

The ideal candidate will be a problem-solver with proven experience and technical skills in immersive production, experience using games engines such as Unreal and/or Unity and experience of working in performance capture and/ or immersive audio development and installation.

 

Significant experience of working in audio/visual (and peripherals) installation or support environment, resolving faults and providing advice and guidance is essential.

 

Good experience of providing technical support for laboratory-based teaching and research, including software and hardware support is required. 

 

It would be advantageous for you to have experience of working in a HE environment or experience of working/managing a creative technologies or immersive studio and in-depth knowledge of studio production in that context.  

 

Any experience of high/low level programming languages would also boost your profile but are not essential. 

 

You should have the ability to deliver technical workshops and present technical information clearly and accurately while having the ability to listen to and be willing to help others.

 

You must be flexible over areas of work in order to meet the needs of the service and must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
