The Role
We are currently looking to appoint an Hourly Paid Tutor in Computing/ IT to contribute to the provision of high-quality teaching within CU London campuses. The successful candidate will join our highly regarded and established team of academics, delivering on our portfolio of undergraduate programmes in our modern facilities at CU London campuses.
As an hourly paid tutor you will be responsible for providing students with high quality and effective learning through the provision of teaching, curriculum development and tutorials, using an innovative approach of learning lead and focused on students. You will also support the development of the subject area by ensuring a class leading student experience is provided and is a sustainable offer to current and future students and aligned to both employer and student demands.
You will be responsible for the development and delivery of learning, teaching and assessment of the course, including the development updating of the module material and ensuring all course support material is updated on the virtual learning environment.
You will demonstrate good practice in learning, teaching and assessment and will use these skills to engage students, stimulate interest in the subject and encourage class attendance by validating the value class participation provides. You will provide students with an effective learning experience by providing high quality academic guidance and advice.
You will contribute to quality monitoring, the enhancement and continuous improvement of the curriculum and teaching provision provided to ensure a quality student experience.
You will engage in professional development and hold an active membership of related professional bodies to ensure you keep up to date with developments in your field and ensure your teaching is informed by modern professional practice.
Qualifications Required
Applicants must have a relevant Masters degree or a PhD in an appropriate subject. Experience of working in an applied setting particularly within the relevant field, along with active membership of an appropriate professional body will be advantageous. A teaching qualification or being willing to undertake a teaching qualification if not already qualified is essential for this role. Coventry University offers academic support and professional development support and provides the opportunity for staff without a recognised teaching qualification to undertake the PGCE. We particularly welcome applicants with a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Our Successful Candidate
You will have experience of teaching at a Higher Education level and with proven ability to deliver at this level. You will also be able to deliver across a broad programme area, but hold advanced subject knowledge to facilitate advanced study in specific aspects of the subject.
You will have a clear passion for the subject area you teach and a strong motivation to facilitate the learning of others. You will have an understanding of the needs of diverse learner groups and student centric approaches.
Experience in producing learning and teaching material for online use to support the course you deliver would be advantageous.
As a global education provider, experience and awareness of learners cultural differences and expectations with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds is essential.
Innovation and collaboration are key to our success, therefore the ability to work both independently and part of a wider team with the willingness to engage in flexible ways of working are key skills required for this role.
Enthusiastic and self-motivated, you will have experience supporting, enhancing and engaging in an ‘active learning’ pedagogy with evidence in proactively supporting success in learning.
To be appointed you will need to share our passion for delivering a positive student experience that puts excellence in teaching and learning at the heart of everything we do and will be able to demonstrate significant knowledge in your area of specialisation. You will be expected to support the design and delivery of teaching that is engaging, innovative and responsive that achieves excellent student learning outcomes.
