The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our thoughtful and dedicated occupational therapy team as an Assistant Professor (Teaching). Our well-established pre-registration courses, delivered across different campus sites, offer a range of routes into the profession including direct entry and apprenticeships; undergraduate and postgraduate. Our focus is on developing reflective, compassionate, and highly skilled occupational therapists, whilst fostering excellence, innovation, and supervision in occupational therapy education and training.
Duties include
- Course leadership and coordination.
- Directing the curation, adaptation, design and development of module and course teaching materials and contributing to ongoing curriculum development, including practice-based learning.
- Teaching on modules and courses at HE levels 4-7 and our Level 6 occupational therapist apprenticeship, and leading teams of teaching staff.
- Leading moderation and quality assurance of appropriate module assessment.
- Line management
- Liaison with external stakeholders as required, including employers and practice partners
Qualifications Required
Essential
- Current registration with the HCPC as an occupational therapist
- Master’s degree in a relevant subject OR (if from a professional practice background) a good Honors Degree and an appropriate professional qualification and/or membership
- A teaching qualification or acceptance of the requirement to undertake one if not already held
- Experience of delivering occupational therapy education (professional/university/apprenticeship)
Desirable
- PhD
- Active membership of an appropriate professional body
Our Successful Candidate
You will have demonstrable experience of successful teaching at higher education levels 4-7 in occupational therapy and/or the Level 6 occupational therapist apprenticeship. You will have experience of leading on curriculum design and delivery and can demonstrate best practice in teaching, learning and assessment consistent with our reputation and track record as a high-quality provider of teaching and learning.
An experienced team leader with good level of digital fluency, you will have experience using creating teaching materials for face to face and online teaching using a VLE.
Enthusiastic and self-motivated, you will have experience in the development and enhancement of an ‘active learning’ pedagogy as appropriate to the academic subject area.
As a global education provider, high levels of cultural awareness with experience of learner’s cultural differences and expectations with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds is essential.
Innovation and collaboration are key to our success, therefore the ability to generate and follow through innovative ideas, work both independently and part of a wider team with the willingness to engage in flexible ways of working are key skills required for this role.
